Claroty platform recognized with Technology Excellence Award for Cybersecurity

Its solution helped secure industrial operations of an oil & gas client.

Claroty is being hailed by the Asian Business Review for its key role in providing a holistic digital solution to its client, a major Thailand-based petrochemical company.

Claroty’s platform is set to receive the Singapore Technology Excellence Award for Cybersecurity - Oil & Gas for its end-to-end capability of securing the client’s network, process integrity, and compliance to industrial control systems (ICS). It has also increased the client’s business agility and risk awareness, and reduced operating costs and downtime, translating to lower cost of ownership of the platform. The Singapore Technology Excellence Awards is part of the umbrella Asian Technology Experience Awards Programme running in several countries across the region.

The client is a petrochemical company that manufactures petroleum products, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil. Its refinery has a total capacity of 215,000 barrels per day.

Combined with Yokogawa’s managed security operation centre (SOC) services. The Claroty Platform monitors the client’s ICS networks and processes in real-time; automatically tracks changes to the OT and Internet of Things (IoT) assets; detects cyber threats, risks, and system anomalies; and secures remote access among the client’s seven sites under Phase 1 of the company’s OT and IT Cyber Security Project, and the 35 sites under Phase 2.

Claroty is part of the client’s digital transformation program, deployed to secure the recently introduced IoT devices which could create entry points and attack vectors for cybercriminals. It includes the flagship Continuous Threat Detection (CTD) and Secure Remote Access (SRA) technologies that connect with the client’s existing infrastructure and programs.

CTD provides full-spectrum IoT and OT visibility into networks, continuous security monitoring, and real-time risk insights into complex networks. The data collected will show changes or anomalies in the traffic and alert on any potential vulnerabilities and threats before a full-blown attack or disaster happens. This minimizes production downtime, damage to the assets, and keeps employees safe.

Meanwhile, the granular permissions and supervisory controls of the SRA platform addressed the need for secure remote access and file transfer across the client sites. Data is displayed in the simplified, easy to manage CTD activity bar, informing SOC and plant operators when a remote session is initiated, which enables them to monitor users, validate the session activities, and troubleshoot as needed.

Claroty claims that the unified and simplified combination of CTD and SRA enabled them to seamlessly integrate with the client’s IT security infrastructure and antivirus tools.

“Claroty’s SRA solution has been particularly useful for us during the COVID-19 pandemic because it allows us to safely access our production environment without having to be onsite and to perform real-time threat monitoring on remote users,” according to an executive source in the petrochemical company.
