Medivest Lands Two Top Awards at Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards

The company received awards for its Bukit Rambai Incinerator and Amplified Intelligence Centre.

Healthcare facility management company Medivest secured the ESG Tech - Environmental Services and the IoT - Healthcare category wins at the recently held Malaysia Technology Excellence Awards for its Bukit Rambai Incinerator and Amplified Intelligence Centre (AIC), which it deems a testament to its commitment to environmental sustainability and healthcare excellence.

The company introduced Malaysia's first clinical waste incinerator in 1997, which marked a significant milestone in the industry. With a capacity of 14 tonnes a day and over 15 years of successful operation, this incinerator underscored Medivest's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology.

Medivest's quest for innovation is further evidenced by the implementation of alternative technologies such as the Carbonator plant and microwave disinfection system. These technologies are designed to minimise environmental impact by achieving near-zero emissions. This diversification demonstrated Medivest's agility and responsiveness to evolving industry demands.

However, it was the inauguration of a new incinerator plant in 2022 that truly solidified Medivest's position as a trailblazer in healthcare waste management. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology enhancements, including the Counter-flow Rotary Kiln System and Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS), this facility sets a new benchmark for operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

This critical addition ensures that pollutants are minimised and emissions to the atmosphere are rigorously controlled. Through rigorous monitoring and surveillance programmes, Medivest also ensures compliance with standards set by regulatory bodies, upholding the highest standards in waste management.

Meanwhile, Medivest’s AIC operates as a nerve centre, housing a spectrum of essential services including facilities management services, facility engineering maintenance services, biomedical engineering maintenance services, cleansing services, healthcare waste management services, linen and laundry services, and a dedicated sustainability programme.

It also serves as an information hub, translating complex data into actionable insights for informed decision-making, ultimately enhancing healthcare services. Precision GPS technology, which is amongst its key innovations, is initially aimed at managing linen inventory and has evolved into a transformative force.

Now, it optimises linen fleet and healthcare waste transport routes, transforming how resources are distributed by ensuring they are sent out promptly and accurately. This shift has not only enhanced efficiency but has also elevated accuracy to unprecedented levels.

At the same time, the integration of RFID linen tracking within AIC has brought about remarkable improvements in linen inventory control and resource allocation accuracy. The company has been able to ensure a spotless inventory management process across its healthcare network through the advanced tracking system.

AIC's monitoring capabilities extend beyond traditional inventory management. The implementation of power monitoring technologies ensures that energy usage remains efficient and cost-effective throughout Medivest's facilities.

Furthermore, AIC's vigilant oversight covers various critical parameters such as real-time medical gas alert system, lift status, fresh water tank levels, indoor air quality, and the functioning of critical area chillers and air conditioning systems, notably within operation theatres and critical wards.

Amongst the notable aspects of its oversight capabilities is its management of service robots. Integral to the company’s healthcare operational framework, the robots undergo rigorous monitoring and management within AIC. Their seamless functionality ensures enhanced operational efficiency and contributes to the delivery of top-notch healthcare services.

Medivest also noted that AIC’s role extends further during challenging times, serving as the cornerstone for coordinated responses. It harnesses the power of predictive analytics to identify improvement areas.

“By discerning trends and patterns, AIC aids Medivest in making proactive decisions, thus raising the bar in care quality and operational standards,” said Abdullah Hashim, the CEO of Medivest.

Amidst the success of AIC, Medivest envisions significant advancements for the solution. It aims to introduce advanced monitoring methods, enhance predictive capabilities, explore innovative technology, and promote better coordination.
